Their feathers create insulating areas of warm air to retain body heat. But you need one more important thing-warmth! Why Chicks Need Help Staying Warmīirds are warm-blooded, which means they can maintain a consistent body temperature (through metabolism), even if the ambient air temperature is chilly. If you're raising baby chicks, you're aware of some of the major requirements for their care: a clean and comfy place to live, quality chick feed, and fresh water. ![]()
